Excerpt: This book contains listings of the very old cemeteries in the Wilkes County area. In the early days, our settlers didn’t establish cemeteries as they exist today. Before the days of the public and church cemeteries as we now have, it was the custom when a member of the family died, to bury them on the farm near the house or behind it.

There are over 159 cemeteries listed. Many of these cemeteries are overgrown or have been bulldozed and built upon. The authors of this book knocked on doors to speak with friends and families who have people buried in them and the location or approximate location of the cemeteries.
